A singer who found minor success in films but was never really acclaimed for his acting. His singing career and world tours, excluding the U.K, made him enough to buy an exclusive mansion house now open to the public.
He died of a heart attack at his home of Gracelands in Memphis on the 16th of August 1977. There was much sadness over his death and the inevitable memorabilia was on offer. Others were more sceptical and rumours ran that he had faked his death and was even on a witness protection relocation scheme. That anyone could relocate such a famous man, but over the years there were many sightings and claims that he was still alive.
There was also all the gory details that come out when someone famous dies. The affairs while married and not, Women claiming to have had his child, drugs, and alcohol abuse.
There have been many reported sightings of him at his Graceland’s home where he is interred in the grounds. Or maybe not! Whichever rumour you choose to believe. There has also been photographic evidence, with people taking cameras, his transparent form can be seen on a number of prints.
Elvis may not have left the building as far as stage hands at the Las Vegas Hilton are concerned as numerous sightings have been reported. Elvis appeared on stage here many times and is evidently all kitted out in his familiar stage apparel ready to perform one more show.
The RCA recording studio at 1525 McGavock Street where Elvis cut Heartbreak Hotel in 1956 was also reputed to be a haunt. When RCA relocated a television production company moved in and soon found strange things would happen at the mention of Elvis’ name. Apart from unexplained noises that came through the sound system, lights would often blow out, this sounding more like poltergeist activity. The television company moved out in 1999 and the Beaman Automative Group sectioned the building into rentals for various small companies but by 2006 it was torn down to make way for a parking lot, but maybe Elvis is still there to relive happier days.
Another hotspot for Elvis sightings is Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel at 3677 Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis. The Elvis Presley Corporation took over the hotel in 1998 and transformed it into a mix of 50’s and 60’s style décor. With so much of The King’s style and mounted photographs in each room it’s not surprising that he pays the odd visit, being seen more often in the lobby.
