Barrels have been heard rolling over the cobbles in what was the courtyard. A former servant girl is also said to haunt, especially the gents toilet which was once part of the kitchen.

Once a stopping off point for crusaders on their way to the Holy Land, it is said to be the oldest pub in England. Poltergeist activity has been reported and there is also a galleon hanging from the ceiling with a curse attached to it. Formerly the King's Arms, the name was changed in 1651. There have been many reports of paranormal phenomena from cold spots to orb sightings. Two of the renowned spirits that are said to haunt here are Charles I who stayed at the inn before surrendering himself to the Scots, and the poet, Lord Byron, who tends to hang round the laundry room.

Dating back to the mid 17th century, there is a lot of history here, though it is more a rock bar, attacting bikers and goths. Reputed to be haunted, a ghost walk starts from here.
