The ghost residing here is said to be that of Dick Peasbody, who was, when alive, a womaniser. His family sent him away to India and he died at the inn on his return to the country.

The sign outside says Marlbororough due to an over-zealous sign maker and the spelling remained. There have been many reports of paranormal phenomena since the inn was rebuilt after a fire took the original coaching inn. Both humans and horses died in the tragedy.
