Once a private manor house. Those arriving at night-time have reported the sighting of a handyman from Victorian times who haunts the grounds. Apart from that there is Lady Jane, named by the staff; she wears clothes of the Tudor period. Footsteps have been heard and several of the bedrooms are reputed to be haunted.

A figure like a monk has been reported along with groaning sounds. Room 11 is said to be haunted. The ghost of an old man is said to reside in the area of the old bar.
KIRKSTONE PASS INN

Standing at the top of the pass where the road forks for Windermere and Ambleside. The inn is said to be the haunt of many spirits, all quite friendly, though some guests have not been able to bring themselves to remain a full night.

Room 3 is reputedly haunted. Voices have been heard in the corridors, and at one time a terrier dog was seen regularly. The most auspicious time to visit may be the New Year when it is said the ghost of a black girl from Jamaica is seen. She was murdered by her former lover who lived here when it was a private house. Following the man she loved from her native home, he murdered her, cutting off her arms as her spirit is now seen.
